Taking a BC Driving Test?

BC Drivers License Test Information:

Taking a BC Driving Test

British Columbia uses a graduated licensing system managed by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), which is required for anyone applying for a driver’s licence in the province—whether new to driving or experienced. Depending on the licence type, drivers can legally operate cars, motorcycles, or other motor vehicles within BC. If you're preparing for a BC Class 5 (car) or Class 6 (motorcycle) licence, there are a variety of helpful resources available. These include ICBC practice tests, knowledge test guides, and step-by-step instructions for passing your road test—all designed to simplify the process and help you prepare with confidence.

Please choose the BC driving test you’re planning to take:

Class 5 BC Driving Test For Passenger Vehicles

In British Columbia, operating a passenger vehicle—such as a car, light truck, or van—requires you to complete the province's graduated licensing system and earn a full Class 5 licence. The process begins with passing the ICBC knowledge test to obtain your learner’s licence. After gaining on-road experience, you can take the road test for your Novice or “N” licence. Once you’ve met all requirements and completed the necessary driving experience, you’ll be eligible to take the final road test. Successfully passing this final stage grants you a full Class 5 licence, completing the journey to becoming a fully licensed passenger vehicle driver in BC.

BC Driving Test for a Motorcycle Licence

In British Columbia, residents interested in riding a motorcycle must go through the province’s motorcycle graduated licensing system. The length of time required at each stage depends on whether you already hold a full-privilege Class 1–5 driver’s licence. The process is overseen by ICBC, which handles all aspects of motorcycle licensing, including the required knowledge and road tests for each stage of the licensing journey.

The ICBC mandates that all new riders must pass two distinct BC motorcycle road tests to obtain their final Class 6 BC motorcycle license. In contrast, the Class 6 road test is an advanced assessment that incorporates highway driving.
